Born in Suffolk, Robin studied for four years at The Royal
College of Music, during which period he became a graduate
of the Royal Schools of Music and a Fellow of the Royal College
of Organists. In 1965 he joined the staff of Charterhouse as
an assistant music master. In September 1987 he succeeded
William Llewellyn as Director of Music. He retired from
Charterhouse in 2003. For many years Robin has been an
examiner of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of
Music which has taken him not only all over the United
Kingdom, but to the Far East and New Zealand. Locally, he
is also the conductor of the Farnham & Bourne Choral Society.
For 19 years he was Chairman of Godalming Music Festival
and Director of the Charterhouse Summer School of Music for
24 years. From 1995-2000 he was conductor of the Petersfield
Musical Festival. He was recently made an Honorary Associate
of the Royal Academy of Music. His first association with Godalming Operatic Society
came in 1966 when he acted as Chorus Master for Iolanthe.
In 1970 he succeeded George Draper as the Society's Musical Director. |
